Construction of modern silos in PPP mode

With a view to modernize the storage capacity in the country this Department has approved a road map/action plan for creating modern storage facility in the form of Steel Silos of capacity of 100 lakh MT in a phased manner in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode by 2020. The proposed capacity will mechanize the existing supply chain and improve operational efficiency.

Further action taken:

Food Corporation of India (FCI):

§ For a capacity of 1.00 LMT (Dhamora in UP & Borivili in Maharashtra), Request for Qualification (RFQ) was floated on 10.03.2017. Bids were opened on 25.04.2017. 15 bids were received. In-principle approval granted by DEA for VGF support. Request for Proposal (RFP) to be floated by FCI.

§ High Level Committee of FCI has finalized locations for construction of silos at 11 locations of total capacity of 6.50 LMT. This includes a capacity of 1.00 LMT in West Bengal (1 location), 1.50 LMT in Gujarat (3 locations) & 4.00 LMT in Uttar Pradesh (7 locations).

§ Out of this capacity, RFP has been floated by FCI for 4.50 LMT capacity at 8 locations under non-VGF model on 23.08.2017. Bids are due to be opened on 08.12.2017.

§ FCI has awarded contract for conduct of a study by professional experts to M/s PWC on 24.07.2017 for assessment of storage requirement, technology for silos for storage of pulses, etc.

Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC):

§ CWC had again re-tendered on 27.09.2017 at Nabha, Punjab for 0.50 LMT capacity. The bids have been opened on 07.11.2017.3 Bids have been received which are under evaluation.
