Quality Control Cells (QCC)

There are Eleven Quality Control Cells functioning under the direct control of the Department of Food & Public Distribution with headquarters at New Delhi and Regional offices at Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Lucknow, Pune, Patna, Chennai and Guwahati. Quality Control Cells (QCCs) located at Patna, Chennai and Guwahati are functioning since 01.4.2015 under Plan Scheme.

The main objective of these cells is to ensure the quality of foodgrains from procurement to storage and distribution. The foodgrains are inspected for quality assurance through routine inspections of Food Storage Depots and Fair Price Shops by the officers of these cells. Besides, the quality, it is also ensured during the inspections that the guidelines/instructions issued by Government about proper storage and maintenance of foodgrains are followed by the FCI, CWC, SWCs and State agencies. Further, these cells attends to various complaints received from MPs, VIPs, State Governments, media and consumers about the quality of foodgrains during procurement, storage and distribution. Discrepancies/shortcomings noticed during inspection/ investigations are communicated to the concerned authorities for taking remedial measures including action against the delinquents.
